What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Camp Counselor position at Sonoma County Family YMCA?
Pay rate: $595-$655/week (based on experience)
This position is a temporary, 2-week, full time opportunity. Candidates must be available for the dates of July 9-23, 2023. Employees live at Camp Ravencliff for the time of employment, Camp Ravencliff is located in Redway, CA.
Camp Ravencliff has been providing life-changing experiences for children for nearly 100 years. It is a high energy, fast paced environment. We often say camp jobs are the toughest jobs you’ll ever love; watching children grow and explore during the weeks at camp is highly rewarding.
Our Camp Counselors work as a team to build a positive and supportive environment for youth in grades 4-9. Camp Counselors ensure social, physical, spiritual and mental development needs are being met through the planning and leading of recreation and enrichment activities in a residential summer camp setting.
Successful candidates for this position possess the following skills-
- Passion for working with youth.
- Supportive of diversity and inclusion in all interactions.
- Strong communication to include active listening skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse team.
Minimum Qualifications-
- Minimum 18 years of age at the time of employment or high school graduate.
- High school graduate or GED, some college preferred.
- At least 6 months’ experience working with children in a classroom or camp setting.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification by the first day of camp.
- Fingerprint clearance from both Department of Justice (DOJ) & FBI, which includes sex offender screening.
- Required to show proof of COVID vaccination prior to employment, or if applicable, request a medical or religious exemption.
Preferred Qualifications-
- Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification or YMCA Lifeguard certification
- Experience or a passion to share skills in arts and crafts, sports, games, music, storytelling, environmental education, and large and small group activities.
- Experience attending residential camp as a child
