Source Support Services is searching for talented freelancers to become part of our Source Techworks global, on-demand, 24/7 network of field service professionals and technical resource partners. Source Techworks field engineers (FEs) are our experts on the ground at each site, responsible for on-site installation, preventive maintenance, and break/fix repair for a wide variety of equipment on behalf of our world-renowned customers in Enterprise IT, Medical Technology, and Industrial Automation.
Independent (1099) career support
Our team is dedicated to your success every step of the way. We encourage you to take your independent field service career into your own hands and grow your skills using Source Academy – our comprehensive training and development program – which will allow you to expand and nurture your technical knowledge while gaining any number of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) authorized certifications. After training, you will collaborate with our on-demand Source Techworks support team to achieve optimal levels of service that our global community has come to depend on.
This project is expected to begin with around 15 hours of work per week, eventually graduating to 32 hours of work per week (Mon-Thur.) This project is also expected to run into mid 2026 at minimum.
Responsibilities
- Provide installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair work for low-voltage distribution gear, transformers, and related power distribution equipment
- Prepare technical reports/test sheets
- Be responsible for specialty tools related to providing support
- Follow the following safety regulations: UL67 Panelboards, UL1008 Transfer Switch Equipment, UL10008S Static Transfer Switches, UL60950 Information Technology Equipment, UL 891 Switchboards, UL 1558 Metal‐Enclosed Low‐Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear, and other pertinent standards.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with onsite personnel and help desk (including consistent check-ins during site work)
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years experience with low-voltage switchgear assemblies, electromechanical systems, electrical power distribution systems, power monitoring systems, and/or AC/DC electrical power
- Basic understanding of electrical & instrumentation systems, and mechanical systems (e.g. hand tools, phase meters/multimeters, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, plumbing, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Familiarity with NFPA 70E
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and electrical schematics
- Ability to use test equipment, including multimeters, current meters, and related devices.
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to effectively interact with data center staff
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Able to work independently to complete assignments per instructions and standard accepted practices, while under pressure to meet strict deadlines and provide exemplary customer service
- Must be a U.S. citizen
Nice-to-haves
- NATE certification
- Relevant Electrician certification or experience working as an apprentice
- Experience performing network and communication protocols or in a data center environment
- OSHA certification (especially the OSHA Safety Certificate, 30-hour construction or general industry certification, NFPA 70e, and/or NFPA 3o) (Source will assist in certification if not already obtained)
- Certified Electrical Inspector (CEI)
- Certified Power Quality Professional (CPQ)
- Understanding of Network Protocols
Physical Requirements
- Must complete and pass a background check
- Must provide photo identification upon acceptance (per our customers’ site access protocols)
- Travel is anticipated to be 30% nationwide, with potential spikes depending on project needs.
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, and required overtime as needed
- Ability to work in confined areas for extended periods of time
- Willingness to commit to PPE use when required
- Willingness to work with others – including communication through email, phone, and/or SMS text messages
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
