Rich in Native American history, Edisto Beach on Edisto Island is one of four oceanfront state parks in South Carolina.
Edisto Beach State Park features trails for hiking and biking that provide a wonderful tour of the park. The park’s environmental education center is a “green” building with exhibits that highlight the natural history of Edisto Island and the surrounding ACE Basin.
Job Purpose And Duties
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees. Performs duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Assists with the administration and operation of a state park; and assist park visitors with quality customer service.
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year general maintenance experience.

- Performs miscellaneous repairs and park improvements, to include carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping and groundskeeping.
- Assists with park administrative and conducts duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
- Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, beach accesses and trail system.
- Repairs and maintains motorized equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on facilities and equipment. Keeps maintenance records.
- Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards. Maintains a safe work environment.
- Performs and directs clean-up and housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of park grounds and facilities.
- Practice and promote teamwork within Edisto Beach State Park, throughout the agency, and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year general maintenance experience.
Additional Requirements
- Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, various cleaning agents, and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays including overtime as needed. Comfortable using Windows, MS Office, and working with data entry on computers. will be required to clean and maintain cabins, campgrounds, and day use facilities.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; have the ability to perform simple accounting and administrative duties as required. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to operate a variety of power tools.
