Job Responsibilities

The Attorney General’s Office is not a law enforcement agency. This is a law enforcement position working in a legal office as an investigator.

About Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)

Under limited supervision, perform as a Forensic Examiner, providing forensic analysis for the Internet Crimes Against Children Section.

  • Forensic examination of digital media submitted as part of a criminal investigation by the SCAG investigator or an ICAC affiliate agency. Prepares report with findings.
  • Obtain search warrants when necessary. Ensure all required paperwork is received at the time of evidence submission. Maintain the evidence chain of custody/security.
  • Maintaining forensic equipment and software to ensure operating at full capacity for forensic examinations.
  • Testify in the prosecution of ICAC cases based on forensic examination findings.
  • Support ICAC affiliates statewide with training, technical assistance, etc.
  • Constable/Forensic training to be aware of emerging technologies and legal issues. Maintain required training hours for examiner certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or Chief Deputy.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and five (5) years experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor’s degree in digital forensics, criminal justice, information technology or related field with one (1) year of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A master’s degree in digital forensics, criminal justice, information technology or related field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Residency Requirement: Eligible candidates must reside in or be open to moving roughly 50 miles from Columbia, SC. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license

Additional Requirements

  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • May require presentations to law enforcement and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced using forensic products (i.e., EnCase, Cellebrite, Magnet (Axiom, IEF), write-blockers, etc.) and completing computer forensic training and certification.
  • Must have experience developing and maintaining good working relationships with multiple law enforcement agencies.
  • Must have good verbal and written skills and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be well-organized with a demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Limited supervision; the employee is expected to promptly make supervisor aware of any issues, problems, or suggestions relating to job duties.
