POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for staff supervision and involvement of parents in the educational programs at assigned Head Start classroom sites, while overseeing and organizing day-to-day operations of assigned sites. The Site Coordinator assists in the well-being of children by utilizing proper early childhood developmentally appropriate practices and techniques. The Site Coordinator will treat all individuals with dignity and respect, make necessary referrals for clients, and exemplify the South Central Community Action Program, Inc. (SCCAP) commitment to empowering people to reach their potential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, the Site Coordinator is responsible for supporting the education component in meeting or exceeding Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing regulations and local grant goals and objectives.
Classroom Support and Management
- Will not leave children unattended or unsupervised in accordance with SCCAP policies and procedures, while children are in the care of SCCAP employees. Failure to comply with this would be considered child neglect and endangerment.
- Ensures that the reporting of all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect, as required by law, is done in accordance with SCCAP policies and procedures.
- Supports classroom by assisting the development, monitoring and evaluating the progress of component goals and objectives.
- Ensures that education component adequately addresses child outcomes by providing leadership to the education staff and program staff on developing, designing curricula around and responding to child outcomes.
- Conducts monthly teacher and/or teacher team meetings.
- Assists with scheduling parent/teacher conferences.
Monitoring, Record Keeping and Reporting
- Performs record keeping of internal and external reporting tasks. Prepares and submits accurate reports.
- Function as the Licensing Specialist for State Child Care Licensing; reviews licensing site reports. Oversees the correction of any non-compliances within required timelines. Address any maintenance, health and safety issues at all classroom and playground locations.
- Conducts CLASS classroom observations bi-annually in assigned classrooms (preschool classrooms only).
Human Resources Management
- Provide guidance and direction to assign education staff, evaluates or provides input into evaluation, assess and secures training opportunities and resources for staff development.
- Attends various meetings, workshops and conferences to maintain professional development and continue growth.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of program staff in a way that builds relationships and trust.
- Is responsible for solving issues regarding staff scheduling, operations and procedures.
- Oversees training of all classroom staff and volunteers. Provides ongoing mentoring and coaching for teaching staff at assigned sites.
Community Relations
- Maintains on-going relationships with public school personnel and other early childhood care educators and services. Including working with local kindergarten programs to coordinate the transition of children and families.
- Engages parents in volunteering, community service and other ways of contributing to program activities and services.
- Responsible for managing all Open Houses for assigned site with the assistance of the Family Advocate.
- Participates and supports at least four events annually (HS program year) hosted/sponsored by SCCAP.
- Actively participate in securing in-kind contributions from families, professionals, and community members.
- Provide opportunities for children and families to participate in family literacy services.
Qualifications
SKILLS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or any equivalent of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Skilled in the use of computers for email, creation and manipulation of databases and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally to attend to daily work demands, meetings, workshops and conferences.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle with required liability insurance for use in business related travel.
- Must ensure efficient operations and present a professional image in conduct, attitude, and attire.
- Must be philosophically compatible with the mission of SCCAP.
- Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hiring. (SCCAP will provide the training)
Childcare Requirements
- Free from Child Abuse and Neglect
- Annual TB test
- Pre-employment drug test & physical examination certification
- Obtain Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) certification within six months of hiring and maintains reliability with Teachstone Classroom Assessment Scoring System.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending and reaching with manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, copy machines, telephone and other office equipment. May require lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Must be able to handle diverse work problems on a daily basis. Requires ability to set priorities and work schedule yet adjust to changes necessitated by last minute assignments and deadline requests that may prove stressful. Consistent pleasant attitude is necessary with personal maturity as an important attribute. Must relate and interact with people at all levels of the company and in a culturally diverse environment.
