ABOUT THIS JOB
Under general supervision, General Maintenance Workers are responsible for performing a wide variety of journey-level maintenance duties involving South Coast AQMD-owned machinery, equipment and facilities, including the headquarters building, and other South Coast AQMD facilities throughout the area we serve.

This position will perform a wide variety of duties, including skilled maintenance work on machinery, equipment and structures. This work will take place at our headquarters building and at other South Coast AQMD facilities throughout the area we serve. This job may require working evening or weekend hours, as assigned, to accomplish tasks, tenant improvement projects or other activities.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Repair, maintain and replace defective parts on machinery and equipment in accordance with diagrams, plans, specifications and operations manuals.
Troubleshoot and correct electrical problems involving motors, switches, automation controls, distribution panels, motor control centers and branch circuits.
Troubleshoot and correct plumbing problems involving water leaks, cleaning drains, faucet repair and flush valve maintenance.
Perform a variety of maintenance operations, using various hand and power tools.

Apply architectural coatings such as well patch compound and paint on rough and finished surfaces to buildings, furniture or equipment as required.
Move materials, equipment and machinery by hand truck, pallet jack or fork lift. Shall be responsible to clean parts, fixtures, equipment and machinery.

Construct, install and repair structures; interior steel frame wall construction, install doors, door frames, interior and exterior trim and hardware.

Troubleshoot, maintain and repairs of HVAC system components including exhaust fans, air handlers, zone comfort controls, chilled and hot water plant equipment.
Set up and tear down conference room tables, chairs and equipment according to written instructions or diagrams, for meetings or special events.
May drive an South Coast AQMD vehicle to South Coast AQMD facilities and other locations.

Perform other duties, as assigned.

MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and experience which would demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform general maintenance work using tools and equipment necessary to perform varied electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, utility and mechanical maintenance duties.

NOTE: This job requires the ability to bend, stretch, stoop, push, pull, carry and/or lift heavy furniture, equipment and other objects in the course of work. It will require heavy lifting of up to as much as 90 pounds occasionally, when handling a bag of cement, for example.

LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License and a good driving record.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The most competitively qualified applicants will be those who bring the broadest range of journey-level skills to the job. Such applicants will be positive, hard-working, flexible and have extensive experience working in two or more trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical, HVAC, machinery repair or other related work. Applicant shall be proficient reading and interpreting building blue print drawings and equipment schematics. Training and/or experience using computer programs like Word 2013, Excel and EMS/BMS computer programs are also very desirable.
Applicants must be able to show that they have the knowledge, skills and abilities required to safely perform the duties outlined above under EXAMPLE OF DUTIES, and safely use the equipment and tools necessary to do the work. Additionally, this job requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English, in order to read written work directions and safety instructions, and be able to communicate with supervisors. The ability to safely drive an South Coast AQMD vehicle in high-volume traffic is also required.

SELECTION PROCESS
