The Building Maintenance Specialist at Spring Creek works under the direction of the District Park Supervisor and in concert with the Park Manager. This person is a lead worker in a large park district. Position will oversee substantial renovations and repairs to park amenities throughout District 12 and other parks in the Central Park's Region. Position will provide work direction; order project materials and supplies; assist in tracking project expenses; and establish a purchasing procedure. Maintenance and repairs of the Spring Creek Marina and associated breakwater is also required. In addition to performing these primary duties, position will assist with the day-to-day upkeep of park grounds and facilities. This would include training and supervision of seasonal and possibly DOC trustees for restroom/cabin cleaning and grounds maintenance.
Candidate will work at a number of outdoor park locations throughout the year and needs to be physically able to meet the challenges of working throughout South Dakota’s seasons and able to work on and off the water to maintain the marina system. Candidate should be capable of lifting 75 lbs. routinely and should possess the ability to be flexible with change in work direction. Candidate should be able to assist in organizing work assignments for the Spring Creek seasonal maintenance crew.
Licenses and Certifications:
SD DANR Commercial Pesticide Applicator License-able to obtain within 3 months of hire date. Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) is preferred, but is not required.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
have a specialty in carpentry and construction.
Knowledge of:
- frame to finish carpentry;
- equipment operation, repair, and maintenance;
- basic plumbing;
- basic electrical trouble-shooting;
- facilities maintenance;
- welding;
- concrete work;
- landscaping;
- tree planting and grass seeding;
- aerial lift operation for tree pruning (no fear of heights);
- chainsaw operation;
- repair and maintenance;
- general facility and grounds maintenance.
Skill to:
- perform skilled carpentry, wood framing, and complete housing and building repairs, improvements, and renovations;
- perform basic plumbing repairs and new installations;
- perform minor electrical repairs to RV pedestals and cabin electrical components;
- perform cleaning of park facilities and general housekeeping practices;
- perform welding repairs;
- use trailers with loading and unloading of equipment that is transported throughout the district;
- operate equipment - loaders, commercial mowers, boats, small tractors, skid-steer and attachments, and large trucks and trailers;
- operate dump trucks;
- order supplies and materials.
Ability to:
- operate a variety of equipment in varying environments;
- meet the physical requirements of the outdoor work environments;
- train others in facility construction and renovation for the safe and proper operation of equipment, tools, and facility cleaning;
- supervise and communicate effectively with park users and staff;
- diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
