What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Court Peer Specialist position at South Florida Wellness Network, Inc.?
Mental Health Court Peer Specialist (PS) is a person in recovery from a substance use or mental health disorder who provides one on one peer support services, serves as a peer advocate and provides individuals and/or families with information and linkage to additional services to meet their needs. PS provides support to individuals and/or families in a variety of settings. PS performs a wide range of tasks to support individuals and/or families living their own lives and directing their own recovery and wellness process. The PS will model competency in recovery and wellness.
Key Responsibilities
Provides support to individuals involved with Mental Health Court in a variety of settings. Provides emotional support to the participant and/or member no matter where the person is on their recovery journey.
The documentation of a questionnaire to be completed by each individual involved in mental health court must be submitted within 72 hours.
Educates the participant and/or member in areas that support recovery and wellness.
Provides needed linkage to services and/or supports for recovery and wellness.
Documents all interactions and work done with the participant and/or member.
Utilizes the recovery capital scale to assess the strengths of the participant (s) and develop a wellness plan.
Effectively communicate, listen and understand the problems, concerns and barriers faced by the participants and/or members.
Utilize and teach problem solving techniques to participants and or families.
Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the area of recovery by reading books, journal articles, attending trainings and relevant materials.
Understand and utilize specific interventions necessary to support participants and/or families in meeting their recovery and wellness goals.
Encourages multiple pathways to recovery to the participant and/or member.
Understands and abides by the recovery-oriented principles.
Encourage the participant to participate in the Wellness Center workshops and/or support groups.
Encourage the participant to actively address and comply with any court related matters or orders.
Encourage the participant to engage in advocacy efforts and community meetings.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be able to pass a level 2 clearance, have transportation and a valid Florida driver’s license.
