Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructors will follow state approved course syllabi for each area of instruction. Areas of
instruction include safety, various processes and techniques of welding including oxyfuel
cutting, plasma arc cutting, base metal preparation, SMAW electrodes, tack welding, fitting
1, fitting 2, blueprint reading, weld symbols, and joints. Instructors are also responsible for
maintaining accurate academic records in a computerized learning management system.
These records include attendance, grade, and class/course syllabi for each class taught.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Providing and supporting classroom instruction for the Maritime program.
  • Maintaining a safe, orderly and up-to-date lab area for the application of multiple labs within the Maritime structural fitter program.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
  • Maintaining classroom hours as listed on the course syllabus.
  • Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students.
  • Evaluating and reviewing students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards.
  • Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others and facilitate learning.
  • Maintaining student discipline through effective classroom management.
  • Attaining, maintaining, and reviewing program certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Business and Industry to promote program.

Facilitation of the Teaching Learning Process:

  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
  • Construct competency-based syllabi.
  • Maintain up-to-date course content.
  • Provide learning activities that meet course objectives.
  • Meet learning needs of diverse student populations.
  • Integrate available instructional technology when appropriate

Evaluation of Student Learning:

  • Adhere to College, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Assess Student Learning: Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division and college assessment plans.

Technology:

  • Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment (overheads, computers, Display Devices, Smart classroom equipment, etc.)

OTHER:

  • Predictable and reliable attendance is required to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.
  • Appropriately researches policies and procedures for compliance with college, state, and program rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Analyzes and identifies the strengths and weaknesses of service delivery options and exercises critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment skills.
  • Fosters a positive and productive work environment while leading and motivating staff.
  • Provides up-to-date information to management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Associate Degree from an accredited College or University in related field or NCCER Craft Instructor Certification

Required Experience:

  • A relevant certificate and 5 years of occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught
  • Must be NCCER certified within the first 90 days of hire
  • Must have the ability to interact with adult students.
  • Must show evidence of good character, mature attitude, and stable personality
  • Must possess computer skills and ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • An active, unencumbered driver's license

Preferred Experience:

  • 7 years of experience

Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
