What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at South Shore Stars?
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting transactions and includes payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the finance team in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position reports directly to the Assistant Controller. The successful candidate will be technically competent, possess excellent communication skills, is forward thinking and is a team player.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Utilize QuickBooks to maintain records according to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Review all vendor and independent contractor invoices for proper documentation, coding, and approvals.
- Record of all vendor invoices and all cash receipts into the accounting system, and file copies of cash receipts.
- Maintain W-9 documentation for all vendors.
- Prepare 1099 forms at year-end.
- Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable monthly.
- Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll.
- Assist Assistant Controller with basic reconciliations.
- Assist with grant tracking.
- Assist with gathering information and supporting documentation requested during annual financial statement audits.
- Participate in activities needed to support the management functions of the team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Minimum of two years of experience including accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, and payroll is preferred.
- Experience in non-profit organizations preferred.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software is preferred.
- Experience in BILL is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are absolutely required, as well as a track record of reliability, confidentiality, and conscientious work habits.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a rapidly changing dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- All other duties as assigned
- All South Shore Stars employees should be able to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.
