The Laundry Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the hospital laundry department, ensuring the timely, sanitary, and safe cleaning and delivery of linens and garments. Essential Functions
- Direct and oversee all daily laundry operations, including sorting, washing, drying, folding, mending, and distribution of linens and garments.
- Ensure timely processing and delivery of clean linens to various hospital departments (e.g., patient rooms, operating rooms, clinics), adapting to fluctuating hospital census and urgent demands.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of clean and soiled linens to meet hospital demand, preventing shortages or overstocking, and conducting regular physical counts.
- Implement and maintain efficient workflow processes to optimize productivity, reduce turnaround times, and minimize waste.
- Supervise, train, and mentor laundry leads and staff, providing ongoing guidance, constructive performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and career growth.
- Schedule staff shifts, approve time-off requests, and handle disciplinary actions in accordance with HR policies to ensure adequate staffing levels and compliance.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate departmental goals, policy updates, performance metrics, and address any operational challenges or staff concerns.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, accountability, and high morale.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for all direct reports, setting clear objectives and identifying areas for improvement.
- Regularly inspect cleaned linens and garments for quality, cleanliness, damage, and proper folding/packaging, ensuring they meet hospital standards before distribution.
- Implement and monitor proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for soiled, contaminated, and infectious linens to prevent cross-contamination.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of laundry production volumes, inventory movements, equipment maintenance, staff training, and incident reports for quality assurance and audits.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and implementing corrective actions as required.
- Oversee the proper operation, routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of all laundry equipment (e.g., industrial washers, dryers, ironers, folders, carts).
- Coordinate efficiently with hospital maintenance personnel or external vendors for routine servicing, emergency repairs, and calibration of machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Ensure staff adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of chemicals (MSDS knowledge), ergonomics, and emergency procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the laundry facility, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective measures promptly to maintain a safe working environment.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, completing necessary reports and implementing preventative strategies.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, energy conservation, and cost-saving initiatives without compromising linen quality, safety, or service levels.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as linen loss rates, utility consumption, and labor costs to drive efficiency.
- Liaise effectively and proactively with other hospital departments (e.g., nursing, environmental services, supply chain, infection control) to anticipate linen needs, coordinate deliveries, and promptly resolve any service-related issues or complaints.
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports on operational performance, challenges, achievements, and future plans to hospital management.
- Address and resolve staff and departmental concerns, conflicts, and grievances in a timely, fair, and effective manner, escalating to HR when necessary.
- Performs other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety

Qualifications
Minimum Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum Education Preferred
- Associate’s degree or certificate in hospitality, operations, or healthcare support services
Minimum Experience Required
- 3 years of experience in healthcare laundry or housekeeping with 1 year in a housekeeping or laundry supervisory or lead role
Minimum Experience Preferred
- 5 years of laundry experience in an acute care hospital with 3-5 years of supervisory experience
Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Required knowledge includes healthcare laundry operations, infection control, and basic computer skills.
