Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is seeking an IT Project Manager to lead and support enterprise level and IT-related projects that drive impactful change in our organization. The IT Project Manager will be responsible for developing project plans, monitoring project progress, and maintaining clear communication with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals. The IT Project Manager will also facilitate the lifecycle of projects from start to finish, track milestones, and report on project metrics. This position resides in the Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management department and reports directly to the department manager.

This position is eligible to work remotely from a location based within the SCAG region and is expected to be in the office at least 1 day per quarter for IT division meetings, and on occasional and/or ad-hoc days, at the discretion of management and business needs. 
 
The Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management department is responsible for providing agency-wide project management standards and support for SCAG’s most complex and impactful projects. In addition, the EPMO includes dedicated IT project managers to plan, implement, coordinate, and oversee cross-functional projects in the areas of Infrastructure and Operations, Application Development, and AV Services.

  • Manage incidents and ideas submitted through ServiceNow to appropriate teams and departments
  • Design, develop, and maintain IT training frameworks including training documentation, plan development, and training frequency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be with 3 years of experience in project management in an IT setting and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
 
Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may also be considered.
 
We’ll be a great match if you also have: 
  • Expertise with project management tools and a track record of effective project planning, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Experience leading and managing complex, high-risk projects across IT and enterprise functions, utilizing methodologies like PMBOK and Agile/Scrum to ensure project success aligned with organizational goals.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft technology stack, including Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, SQL Server, and familiarity with IT service management and tracking via ITIL and ServiceNow.
  • Strong risk management knowledge and experience, applying principles and techniques to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring continuity and minimizing disruptions.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, such as project plans, status reports, meeting minutes, and presentations, ensuring accurate and timely project communication.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and control processes, contributing to quality activities to meet established standards and project requirements.
  • Skill in translating between technical and business teams, providing clear, concise written and verbal communication to bridge understanding across departments.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and balance software and infrastructure workstreams, applying strong organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
