Brief Description

WAREHOUSE MANAGER – SECOND SHIFT

Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM

Location: 1500 Tradeport Ave, Suite 700, Hazelwood, MO 63142

Reports To: Operations Manager

The Second Shift Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing all second-shift warehouse management, ensuring products are picked, packed, and shipped with accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency. This individual plays a vital role in Southern Hobby Distribution’s commitment to excellence by managing a team-oriented environment that prioritizes safety, quality, and productivity. The role includes cross-functional coordination with Quality Control, Packing and Shipping to uphold daily goals and standards

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations & Time Management:

• Arrive 15 minutes prior to shift to prepare, review priorities, and lead shift huddles
• Ensure all orders printed by 3 PM are fulfilled next-day
• Monitor real-time workflow and adjust staffing to optimize productivity across picking, packing, and shipping
• Conduct daily follow-up with Operations Manager, and QC/Shipping Lead regarding previous day’s workload and areas for improvement
• Maintain a clean, organized warehouse and lead inventory accuracy efforts
  
  

Team Leadership & Oversight

• Directly supervise second-shift employees including pickers, packers and shippers
• Train, coach, and hold team members accountable to Southern Hobby standards, SOPs, and quality expectations
• Reassign team members dynamically between roles (e.g., picker to packer) as needed to meet volume and timelines
• Empower Quality Control Leads to maintain accuracy, completeness, and professional standards across order handling
  
  

Quality Assurance & Process Integrity

• Oversee the full QC process from picking through shipping:
• Validate picker accuracy with RF gun checks (full-cart review on 100% of orders)
• Monitor correct SKU handling and packing standards (box integrity, cushioning, sealing)
• Ensure order handling is maintained, especially with high-value or time-sensitive items
• Guarantee accuracy of LTL, Next Day, and other special orders
• Conduct daily audits of processes and packing samples; create action plans for identified issues
  

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with first shift Receiving Lead to ensure all inbound product is put away within 48 hours and prioritized for outbound needs (especially new release items)
• Support the receiving and put-away process as needed
• Coordinate with QC/Shipping Leads on new release schedules, pre-boxing strategies, and order flow
• Book LTL pickups and assess if ground shipments can be upgraded to LTL based on order analysis
  
  

Strategic Planning & Improvement

• Analyze order flow and labor efficiency; propose staffing and workflow adjustments to meet demand
• Maintain hourly tracking against volume to ensure production goals are met
• Create and assign projects during downtime
• Conduct monthly 5S audits and implement action plans for continuous improvement
• Support warehouse safety, compliance, and inventory accuracy initiatives
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• 2 years warehouse or logistics experience and must have at least 1 year of team leadership
• Familiarity with Southern Hobby’s picking, packing, and shipping systems; SX and MITS a plus
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to lead, coach, and empower a team with integrity and accountability
• High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a dynamic warehouse environment
