Position/Rank: Post-Doctoral Researcher (Environmental Chemistry / Toxicology) is a full-time position in the Center for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (CFAAS) at Southern Illinois University located in Carbondale IL.
Duties & Responsibilities: The Lydy Lab (www.aquatictox.siu.edu/) at Southern Illinois University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop response spectrums of current-use pesticides in fish. Responsibilities include leading studies focusing on bioaccumulation, biotransformation and the study of sublethal processes in Chinook salmon. The successful candidate will ideally have a background in environmental toxicology or environmental chemistry with hands-on GC-MS or LC-MS-MS experience. The aquatic toxicology facility at SIU houses a well-equipped analytical chemistry lab as well as a large modern aquatics facility. SIU is located in Carbondale a scenic portion of the state, and is near several state parks and national refuges, including the Shawnee National Forest.
Minimum Qualifications: Recent graduates with a Ph.D. in analytical or environmental chemistry, toxicology or equivalent field are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have previous experience developing analytical methods and/or quantifying pesticides in environmental media. Toxicological bioassay experience examining olfactory response and swimming performance with aquatic species is also desired. Applicant must have good technical oral and writing skills, including the ability to write manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals, reports and make presentations at scientific meetings.
Salary: Commensurate with experience (100% time) and includes a benefit package.
Effective Date of Employment: Applications are being accepted immediately with the position starting in August 2024. The position is expected to continue for two years; continuation is contingent upon availability of future grant funding.
