WHO WE ARE: Established in 1999, Southern Wake Academy (SWA) is one of the most sought after tuition-free, public charter schools for middle and high school grades in Wake County. We are proud of our school’s journey that started as an alternative school for “at risk” students inside an industrial business park with 77 students. From these humble beginnings, we purchased our own facilities, built a state-of-the-art school building, and delivered academic achievement that prepares our young people to do well in life.

Located in the thriving communities of Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, SWA is this area’s only charter school. Our school is a magnet for families that share our values of partnering with community organizations, providing a strong academic foundation for our students, and treating our closest constituents with deep respect.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

Middle school teachers play a pivotal role in shaping young minds by imparting knowledge, fostering critical thinking skills, and nurturing personal development. They create engaging lesson plans, facilitate classroom discussions, and provide guidance to students both academically and personally. Through their dedication, high school teachers inspire a love for learning, instill confidence, and prepare students for future success, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the challenges of adulthood

SKILLS AND QUALITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designing, developing, and delivering quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to national and school guidelines.
  • Drawing up suitable assessments and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers.
  • Establishing classroom, lab, and field trip rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.
  • Setting up demonstrations and assisting and supervising students while they conduct experiments.
  • Providing extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling.
  • Ensuring all permission slips are signed in a timely manner and acting as a field trip chaperone when required.
  • Grading papers, updating records, and handling various administrative tasks.
  • Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and training of all new teachers and providing support to student teachers.
  • Participating in other school activities and regularly communicating with parents.

Teacher Requirements:
Bachelor's degree .
Teaching License Preferred
Empathy and great interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word and Excel.
Experience working with children and adolescents. Previous experience as a science teacher will be advantageous.
Good classroom management skills.
Good teamwork abilities.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $40,500.00 - $65,000.00 per year
