Instructional Aide – Southside Community School
At Southside Community School, we view our aides as a valuable resource to our school. They play a vital role in supporting learning and keeping students safe on campus. We are dedicated to the professional growth of everyone working at our school, and many of our aides have gone on to work with us as full-time teachers. Even if teaching is not your long-term goal, our goal is to give as many opportunities as possible for all our staff to grow and develop their individual talents for the benefit of our students.
Instructional Aides at Southside Community School are expected to:
1. Be flexible – You can and will be asked to work with multiple grade levels in multiple capacities during the course of the year, sometimes at a moment’s notice.
2. Show initiative – There is not always going to be someone telling you what to do, but there is always work to be done. You need to have the ability to find ways to be helpful, even when it is not always obvious.
3. Be dependable – Your job is vital for the education and safety of our students. Teachers, admin and students are all relying on you to be where you say you are going to be when you say you are going to be there.
4. Demonstrate passion – We need everyone working at our school to be passionate, both about our students, and also about their own professional growth. Anyone who works here needs to be consistently dedicated to improving themselves and those around them.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting teachers academically (running a center, instructing a whole group, one-on-one tutoring, etc)
- Assisting teachers administratively (recess monitoring, copies, cleaning, etc)
- Substituting for any and all grade levels, sometimes with only an hour’s notice
- Monitoring students before school, in the lunchroom and after school
- Forming relationships with students, and taking action when students misbehave
- Attending trainings and feedback meetings designed to improve the above mentioned skills
- Additional job duties that may be assigned include serving breakfast, working the after school program, after school tutoring, etc
- Aides also have the opportunity to start and run after school clubs and/or initiate courses for our students. Aides have run Folkloriko, Drama Clubs, Art Club, just to name a few
Minimum Requirements:
- Either an Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Ability to work with and take direction from other adults
- Comfortable communicating with parents on a regular basis
- Desire to form relationships with students, and provide them with safe opportunities to learn and grow
- At least some experience working with children preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.80 - $21.50 per hour
