Southside Medical Center, Inc. was founded in 1967 as the Atlanta Southside Comprehensive Health Center. We are a non-profit Medical Center that provides primary health care and related services to the medically underserved and uninsured.
SMC has 13 locations across the state of Georgia. Our main Center is located near the Georgia State Football Stadium in Fulton County. We also have two other locations in Fulton County; one at Dobbs Elementary School and the other in East Point. We have two locations in Dekalb County on Gresham Road and in Decatur, and three locations in Clayton County in Lovejoy, Riverdale and Forest Park. One location in Gwinnett County in Norcross, and a location in both Spalding and Butts Counties, Duluth and our newest location East Point, Cleveland Urgent Care in East Point.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible to the Chief Medical Officer. Performs health services in the area of Optometry, i.e., examines, diagnoses, and manages patients with various visual disorders in a comprehensive neighborhood health center setting.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION DUTIES:
1. Conducts history specifically in those areas related to the ocular and visual comfort of the patients.
2. Conducts complete visual examination and analysis of those patients upon referral from the team physician.
3. Works with professionals and new professionals, including nurses, social workers, clinic and community health assistance, as part of a team approach to meet the inter-related needs of families and individuals under care.
4. Performs related duties as required and other duties as assigned by the Health Services Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of diagnosis and clients treatment plans.
2. Ability to perform all tests relative to optometry procedures.
3. Ability to communicate with patients and staff.
4. Knowledge of other services offered for referral purposes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate from an accredited school of Optometric Science; plus one (1) year of experience in direct patient care. Must hold current Georgia license.
