Position Overview: Spartanburg Methodist College is seeking a motivated and experienced Seasonal Assistant Coach for our NAIA Men's Soccer Program. This position will support the Head Coach in all aspects of team management, player development, and game strategy during the soccer season. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of soccer tactics, excellent communication skills, and a passion for fostering student-athlete growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
Training and Development:
- Assist in planning and conducting team practices and training sessions.
- Develop and implement drills and exercises to improve player skills and team performance.
- Provide individualized feedback and guidance to players.
Game Preparation:
- Aid in the development of game strategies and tactical plans.
- Assist with scouting and analyzing opponents, including reviewing game footage.
- Prepare players for games, including pre-game warm-ups and motivational support.
Player Support:
- Mentor players both on and off the field, helping with their athletic and personal development.
- Support the Head Coach in addressing player concerns and fostering a positive team environment.
- Assist with injury prevention and recovery protocols.
Administrative Duties:
- Help with organizing and managing team logistics, including travel arrangements and equipment.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records and documentation related to team activities and player performance.
- Support recruitment efforts by evaluating prospective players and attending scouting events as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to ensure cohesive team management.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and other stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive team culture.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Coaching, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level or competitive soccer environment is highly desirable. Playing experience at a high level is also advantageous.
- Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of soccer tactics, strategies, and player development.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, players, and other stakeholders.
- Certifications: Coaching certifications or licenses (e.g., USSF, United Soccer Coaches) are a plus.
- Other: Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the soccer season.
