The SPCA of Wake County seeks a high-energy, exceptionally organized, people-loving professional to help guide our volunteer program into the future. Responsibilities include implementing effective processes and guidelines for the volunteer program; driving program growth; assisting in recruiting, training, motivating, and coaching 1,500 volunteers; nurturing positive staff/volunteer/constituent relationships by helping to establish and maintain a culture of kindness and positivity, and working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of the organization. Responsibilities also included are responding to volunteer inquiries, processing new volunteer applications, and completing paperwork as needed.
Candidates best suited for this position will be positive, solution-focused, change-driven, tech-savvy, and be able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Must have a passion for the mission of the SPCA of Wake County, a naturally positive spirit, excellent written and verbal communication skills, patience, kindness, and a genuine appreciation for our volunteers’ dedication to all animals, people and programs impacted by the work of the SPCA.
Applicants must have experience in a human resource or leadership role and excel in communicating with many people. Minimum two years’ professional experience in human resources or in supervising volunteers in a non-profit environment.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists Director of Volunteer Services in developing volunteer training plans, providing positive guidance, and coaching as needed.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to volunteers in a positive way.
- Creates & supports a positive work environment for staff & volunteers.
- Possesses problem solving capabilities with a demonstrated dedication to the mission of the SPCA.
- Maintains the efficient flow of volunteers for open volunteer shifts.
- Assist the Director of Volunteer Services in creating, developing, and implementing an innovative volunteer program.
- Continues to improve volunteers’ experience by utilizing innovative digital platforms.
- Provides information to volunteers about programs, events, and organizational information.
- Assists with strategies to attract, recruit, train, and retain volunteers.
- Able to conduct volunteer orientations as needed.
- Supports ongoing recognition and appreciation of volunteers.
Job Type: Full-time (40 hrs./week), some weekend days required.
Pay: $18.00/hr.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
Ability to meet all physical requirements, including but not limited to, lifting, carrying and pulling up to 50 lbs., as well as kneeling, crouching and reaching overhead.
Ability to work in an environment with a high noise level, strong odors, and fractious animals.
