Our client is a trusted, growing agricultural logistics and supply chain company with a long-standing reputation for excellence in grain handling, transportation, and farm services. With decades of industry experience, our client prides itself on building strong relationships with customers, carriers, and partners across the U.S. They are currently seeking a driven, detail-oriented Freight Broker & Sales Representative to join their growing team. This role plays a vital part in the coordination and movement of freight for customers while working with an in house truck driving team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, shippers, and internal logistics staff.
- Coordinate the movement of freight by negotiating rates, booking loads, and tracking shipments.
- Manage drayage operations to and from ports, including scheduling container pickups and drop-offs, coordinating with steamship lines and terminals, and ensuring compliance with port regulations and timelines to prevent demurrage and detention charges.
- Proactively manage load status, ensuring timely pickup and delivery while resolving issues as they arise.
- Identify new carrier opportunities and expand our transportation network.
- Provide accurate quotes to customers and ensure margin targets are met.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation laws and regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date records and documentation in logistics software.
- Assist in new driver onboarding. Maintain and update driver and fleet records, ensuring all driver licenses, DOT registrations, insurance documentation, and regulatory compliance materials are accurate and current at all times.
- Identify, implement, and maintain brokerage software solutions to improve operational efficiency, ensure accurate load tracking, and support long-term scalability of freight operations.
- Achieve sales goals and growth targets by expanding shipper/carrier network for drayage to the port as well as other bulk shipments.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a freight broker or in third-party logistics (3PL) preferred.
- Strong sales, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- High capacity individual able to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office. Experience selecting, implementing, and/or managing freight brokerage or transportation management software (TMS) is highly preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation and a commitment to integrity.
- Knowledge of agricultural commodities and seasonal logistics a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Proven leader with strong emotional IQ able to excel within highly functioning team.
