What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist position at Spectrum Health Systems, Inc.?
Location: Chesapeake, VA. Indian Creek Correctional Center is a level 2 medium security prison. This facility provides specialized treatment services to individuals with substance use disorder.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm OR 7:45 am – 4:45 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
Pay Rate: $21.63/hr. ($45,000 annually).

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
State certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the state of Virginia is required.
Experience working in the substance abuse treatment field is preferred.
Experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus.
Experience working in Therapeutic Community model programs is a plus.
The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for:
Acting as an active facilitator (or co-facilitator) in non-clinical groups, seminars, and meetings.
Building therapeutic alliance and exercising trauma-informed care.
Demonstrating knowledge of community resources to help meet offender’s unique recovery needs.
Working cohesively with multi-disciplinary team through all aspects of offender’s treatment and recovery.
Documenting all encounters with offenders in CORIS.
Encouraging and supporting from a place of experience and understanding.
Advocating for the needs of the offender and ensuring that their individualized goals are being met in accordance with their assessed needs.
Participating in training and educational activities to obtain certification (CSAC) and to remain current in knowledge of effective treatment methods.
