JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the Clinic Nurse and Practice Administrator is responsible for performing both clinical (back office) duties as well as some administrative (front office) duties.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative Duties
- Using computer applications
- Answering telephones
- Welcoming patients
- Updating and filing patient medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms, referrals, and prior authorizations(pharmacy and medical)
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
- Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
Clinical Duties
- Taking medical histories
- Explaining treatment to procedures to patients
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting the providers during exams
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests
- Instructing patients about medication and special diets
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by the providers
- Transmitting prescription refills as directed
- Drawing blood
- Taking electrocardiograms
- Removing sutures and changing dressings
- Acts and servers as a liaison between patients and the providers
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Education
Preferred Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
Work Experience Primary Care Experience Preferred
License and certifications N/A

- Demonstrate ability to provide services with cultural competence
- Excellent Customer Service Skills
- Comfortable with public speaking and one-on-one interactions
- Ability to communicate effectively and timely; bilingual Spanish preferred
- Ability to perform under a flexible high-volume clinic and still pay attention to detail
- Experience using EHR programs
