JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interprets educational information and casual classroom conversation to and from the hearing impaired student, regular teacher, and regular students
- Uses the mode of communication that best suits the HI student's needs (e.g., Signed Exact English, ASL, Pidgin English, etc)
- Facilitates communication in the regular classroom without counseling, advising, or interjecting personal opinions
- Relates progress and problems with the HI student to the HI teacher periodically
- Assists High Incidence students in taking examinations by interpreting only the test items without explanation
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- A High School diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of an Associate's Degree from an approved interpreter training program.
- An Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure (Alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate and acceptable)
- An Educational Aide Certificate or the ability to obtain one
