What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Advocate position at SpringHaven, Inc. Domestic Violence Program?

The person in this position will provide assistance to residents and outreach clients who are literally homeless due to domestic violence. This person will act in accordance with the Fair Housing Act and Kentucky’s Crime Victims Bill of Rights (KRS 421.500), and all state and federal fair housing regulations. This position will assist families in finding and/or keeping safe, decent, affordable, and accessible housing.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Recruit safe, affordable, decent, and accessible housing opportunities for participants.

2. Coordinate with local resources to secure furniture and household items for new housing units.

3. Determine immediate housing needs of shelter residents and provide on- going support services

4. Determine immediate housing needs after two weeks in shelter.

5. Assist with case management, referrals to mainstream benefits and resources and housing search and placement.

6. Complete required documentation in accordance with grant expectations.

7. Compile and report statistical information on participants as required by local, state and federal funding sources.

8. Provide consultation to staff in areas of housing advocacy and home ownership.

9. Increase knowledge of federal homeless & housing policies and attend all required meetings and trainings.

10. Attend inter-agency housing related meetings and promote the mission of this agency.

11. Attend all required trainings and staff meetings.

12. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or human service field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the rights of homeless individuals, housing rights, availability of housing and fair housing laws.
  • Commitment to adhere to the Member Service Standards of the Kentucky Coalition against Domestic Violence.
  • Complete program for certification as Domestic Violence Advocate.
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.

Full Time with benefits EOE. Starting Salary $39,520

Hours: 1pm to 9pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,520.00 per year
