St. Ambrose University's Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) seeks a full-time, 12-month Disability Service Specialist. This role will focus on providing support and advocacy for students with disabilities, ensuring their needs are met within the academic setting. It includes working with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff in health sciences programs, appropriately handling confidential information and case management, and coordinating student accommodations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Working one-on-one with students with various disabilities to develop or enhance appropriate skills and strategies for succeeding in the college environment (in both graduate and undergraduate programs).
- Interpreting psycho-educational testing to assist students in identifying strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations for appropriate accommodations and/or learning strategies.
- Serving as the liaison between the chairs and faculty members in multiple health science programs and Accessibility Resource Center director, and staff.
- Classified as an End User, this position is responsible for day-to-day data entry and running established reports as required. End User attends training adheres to documented procedures, and maintains data integrity.
- Assisting and supporting the ARC Director with the development and delivery of on & off campus educational/informative programming around disability awareness and accommodations.
- Assisting and supporting the ARC Director with general office functions, such as ARC orientation, updating office forms, monitoring the effectiveness of office policy and procedures, and evaluations of the Accessibility Resource Center.
- Providing informal screening to determine if it is necessary to refer students for formal testing.
Necessary Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing disability documentation, including IEPs, 504 plans, and other medical documentation to make a determination regarding eligibility for accommodations.
- Knowledge of disability law, specifically as it applies to adults and college students.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and other assistive tools for students with disabilities.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet applications.
- Professionalism and experience maintaining confidentiality.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in organization, planning, and time management.
- Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, to work independently under tight deadlines, and assume responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a CHSE field, education, or related field.
- Experience working in a higher education health sciences setting and/or healthcare setting.
- Experience working directly with K-12 and/or adults with disabilities.
- Master's degree strongly preferred.
