Position: Classroom Teacher
Reports To: Building Principal
Minimum Qualifications: Professional Educator License valid for teaching self-contained elementary.
Supervises: Students under direct or indirect control
Job Goal: To provide instruction that focuses on the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of students
Terms of Employment: Per the collectively bargained agreement
Evaluation: The performance of the teacher shall be evaluated by the administration.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and communicates these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
- Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the district.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Works cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of individual students with specialized needs.
- Communicates with parents regarding student progress as needed.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities and completes accident reports as needed.
- Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees.
- Meets accepted standards of professional behavior as outlined in the Board-approved Teacher Evaluation Instrument.
- Participate in Common Planning activities and assignments as directed by the building principal.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned by the building principal.
