Summary of Duties
Responsible for financial reporting, annual budget preparation, internal control and compliance with outside agencies; coordinating the preparation and payment of the System’s financial liabilities with vendors, banks, other creditors; monitoring System financial performance, cash requirements and other related activities to maintain the System’s financial resources.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Administration
- Establishes policies and procedures related to Finance
- Completes assignments within deadlines set forth by Management
- Supervises general accounting staff, including accounts payable.
- Financial Statements and Accounting
- Monitors financial performance of St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii and its subsidiaries
- Coordinates timely and accurate preparation of monthly internal financial statements for the System and its subsidiaries
- Discusses financials with department managers and provides detail information/backup as requested.
- Analyzes financial reports and records
- Implements and ensures proper accounting treatment and financial reporting
- Maintains appropriate financial records
- Annual Budget and Monitoring
- Plans and executes annual budget process
- Monitors monthly financial performance with budget (operating and capital)
- Monitors and forecasts cash requirements (weekly, monthly forecasts) including preparation of cash deposits and disbursements
- Responsible for supervision of the accounting staff and day to day operations.
- Analysis and Internal Support/Service
- Performs accounts receivable valuation analysis
- Completes financial analysis utilizing the general ledger, patient accounting, cost flex, or department specific data sources and ensures data integrity of the results. Assists department in preparation of grants, including RFPs, budgets etc.
- Monitors contracts and lease agreements, including review and recommendations and determination of proper accounting treatment
- Monitors financial status of various grants, programs and other projects
- Provides recommendations to management and departments ways to improve efficiencies and/or financial position
- Performs special analysis as needed
- Maintain internal control and compliance with outside parties
- Maintains billing/reimbursement related files to ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations and other payor requirements
- Monitors compliance of grants
- Files with various agencies necessary reports (income tax returns, GET, unclaimed property etc.
- Completes and/or coordinates all financial audits and tax returns.
- Maintains and files appropriate documents for safety vehicle registration, safety inspection, property taxes etc.
- Maintain internal control and compliance with outside parties
- Maintains billing/reimbursement related files to ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations and other payor requirements
- Monitors compliance of grants
- Files with various agencies necessary reports (income tax returns, GET, unclaimed property etc.
- Completes and/or coordinates all financial audits and tax returns.
- Maintains and files appropriate documents for safety vehicle registration, safety inspection, property taxes etc.
- Performs other duties as necessary
Requirements
Must comply with CMS COVID-19 mandates
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. CPA preferred.
Experience
Minimum five years’ experience in finance or accounting required, preferably in a not for profit organization. Previous supervisory and personnel management experience required.

- Ability to work with all levels of personnel
- Must possess technical and professional financial knowledge.
- Proficient use of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.). Knowledge of Great Plains software preferred.
