St. John’s is seeking a full-time Physical Education Teacher and Coach in the Athletic Department for the 2023-2024 school year. In addition to teaching physical education classes and coaching athletic teams, the successful candidate will be an involved member of the St. John’s community in various aspects of student life and promoting the School’s mission.
Supporting a robust physical education and athletic program, candidates should have deep knowledge of physical education pedagogy and best practices in coaching. Additionally, candidates should have a genuine love of working with students of various ages and a commitment to nurturing the whole child with a student-centred approach to teaching. St. John’s seeks educators who exhibit a growth mindset, an interest in innovative practices, and an appreciation for collaborative effort. Working within a large department of teachers and coaches will require flexibility, goodwill, and a sense of humor.
Primary Responsibilities:

Planning and implementing lower and middle school physical education lessons and curriculum in physical fitness, sports, and dance

Encouraging student engagement and evaluating student performance

Establishing a safe learning environment for all students with clear and consistent expectations and an emphasis on sportsmanship and supporting the social-emotional development of students

Supporting curriculum development and review

Coaching middle and/or upper school teams in three seasons

Ability to incorporate technology into curriculum where appropriate for enhancing instruction

Participation in staff meetings and assistance with special events and activities

Preparing individualized written comments for report cards

Establish consistent and positive communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff to support collaborative relationships

Participation in professional development, meetings, conferences, and school events to maintain current practices and seek growth opportunities
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in physical education or education; Master’s degree preferred

Minimum of 3 years teaching physical education, preferably elementary-aged students
-
Experience coaching team sports at the middle/secondary level
