Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Conservation District Manager to lead our county’s conservation efforts, foster community engagement, and drive sustainable environmental initiatives. This energetic leader will oversee the planning, development, and implementation of conservation programs, ensuring alignment with local environmental goals and community needs. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for natural resource management, exceptional leadership skills, and a proactive approach to business development and process improvement. Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily operations, financial matters, programs and activities of the St. Joseph County Conservation District.
  • Lead and supervise staff, providing mentorship, performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Create and manage budgets, monitor profit & loss statements, grant reporting and ensure financial sustainability of conservation programs
  • Drive business development initiatives by cultivating partnerships with local organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison between Board of Directors and District Staff.
  • Lead community outreach efforts to educate residents about conservation practices and encourage active participation in programs.
  • Coordinate with the County to provide two Household Hazardous Waste days
  • Assist the (NRCS) Natural Resources Conservation Services to assist local conservation and Federal contracts for farmers/producers
  • Maintain the District webpage, news letters and outreach to volunteers.
  • Prepare and coordinate a bi-annual audit as required by Conservation District Law.

Requirements

  • BS in natural resources or similar field.
  • Proven management experience with a strong background in supervising teams and leading projects in environmental or related fields. At least 2 years.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning skills with the ability to develop long-term goals and execute actionable plans effectively.
  • Strong leadership qualities that inspire teamwork, accountability, and innovation among staff and partners
  • Experience managing profit & loss responsibilities within a nonprofit or government setting is preferred
  • Highly organized and proficient with Microsoft office and Google applications
  • Willingness to train in QuickBooks Accounting software.
  • Effective communication skills to promote conservation District Tree Sale, Annual Meeting and election, and secure grant funding.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Can pass a Federal background check

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $55,000.00 per year
