Description
Provides needed custodial services in the daily operations of the Saint Louis Science Center. This includes building preparation for the daily opening of the facility, the set-up and tear down of resources from special events, emergency custodial services when needed and general cleaning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stock and maintain restrooms when open, during and after special events.
- Stock custodial closets and keep orderly.
- Must know, understand and identify MSDS.
- Must adhere to Safety Policy/Procedures and use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and use a back brace.
- Keep floors free of gum, trash and hazardous spills.
- Clean outer surface of exhibits, walls, trash cans, etc.
- Assists in setting up and tear down of special event resources.(before/after)
- Clean assigned areas in preparation for opening including interior and exterior of the facility.
- Snow and ice removal from sidewalks, steps and parking lots.
- Work overtime with regards to work -loads and/or special events.
- Clean refrigerator/microwaves.
- Plunge toilets.
- Requires extensive walking, standing, reaching, lifting and bending.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required and 3 years of custodial experience required.
The candidate must possess good verbal and written communication skills as well as be able to convey instructions clearly. The worker must have the ability to work among people in a safe, discreet manner with a professional demeanor.
Experience with safe and proper use of any cleaning chemicals required. Proper knowledge of cleaning procedures for a variety of surfaces including glass, plastic, laminated plastic, stainless steel, wall surfaces and wood. Knowledge of the proper procedures for cleaning and disinfecting restrooms is a must.
The ability, knowledge, and experience in operating floor care machines such as a vacuum, a steam machine, side by side, scrubber and carpet extractor is highly preferred, but can be trained.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift 75 lbs. weight, one end of an 8ft. table, climb and work from a12 ft. ladder and handle a mop bucket 2/3 full of water work. In addition the candidate must be able to work with typical janitorial cleansers, chemicals and supplies. This position also requires extensive walking, standing, reaching, lifting and bending. Must be able to work outside in all types of inclement of weather. Must be in good physical condition, stamina and strength.

Must be able to work in all climates of weather.
