The Perinatologist is a subspecialty of obstetrics with extensive experience in managing high-risk pregnancies and providing expert care for mothers and their unborn babies. They provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services. They will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and their families.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide prenatal counseling, education, and care for pregnant women

  • Diagnose and monitor conditions such as multiple births, preterm births, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and high blood pressure

  • Perform fetal interventions when necessary

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care

  • Perform diagnostic tests, fetal ultrasound studies, and interpret results

  • Counsel patients and their families on healthcare options and potential risks

  • Develop and implement treatment plans for patients

  • Participate in departmental and divisional conferences, committees, and quality improvement process. Along with participate in research projects to improve patient outcomes

  • Assist with the teaching of medical students and residents

  • Other duties may be assigned

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 8 hours per day, 4 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day, 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, push and carry objects up to 10 lbs. Frequently lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transport patients weighing up to 400 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher with assistance when appropriate. Consistently pull up to 10 lbs. Frequently pull up to 250 lbs. with assistance when appropriate. Frequently stoop, bend, crouch, kneel and climb. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Occasional crawling.  Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Frequently finger and handle objects. Occasionally firmly grasp, twist, turn objects with hands and fingers. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relate to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and visual monotony (e.g., computer screen).


EDUCATION:


Include any specific licenses and/or certifications and/or registrations that are required or preferred.
•    M.D. or D.O. required
•    Board Certification or eligible in Maternal Fetal Medicine required
•    Medical License for the applicable state required

TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:


•    Must have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)/AOA-accredited residency training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology required 
•    Completion of an approved Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship program required

SKILLS: Language, Mathematical Reasoning ability needed.
