Job Summary
St. Paul’s Ivy Preschool is seeking an Assistant Teacher for a three-year old classroom and a Pre-K classroom for the 2025-2026 school year. Assistant Teachers at St. Paul’s Ivy are an important part of a ministry team, committed to sharing the love of God with students, their families, and the preschool staff. Assistant Teachers work alongside teachers to prepare and implement curriculum in the classroom. St. Paul’s Ivy Preschool is an intentionally small program with a family-like atmosphere. We are seeking a candidate who wishes to work in a close-knit environment with directors, teachers, children and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe learning environment in a Christian atmosphere that allows for the development of each child's intellectual, spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Support the lead teacher in using developmentally appropriate methods during lessons and activities, by helping prepare materials, assisting the lead teacher during whole group instruction (as directed), and working with children one-on-one or in small groups daily
- Reinforce positive discipline strategies used by teachers (training will be provided)
- Participate in professional development opportunities (e.g., training/teacher workdays)
- Assist staff in preparing for and cleaning up after special events (e.g., Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Program, Graduation)
- Carry out St. Paul’s Ivy Preschool policies
- Help create and maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, some college or coursework related to child development or education preferred
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles is a plus but not mandatory; willingness to learn is essential.
- Experience working with young children in a classroom environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Desire to work in a Christian school environment
- Must be found "Eligible for Employment" prior to employment by fingerprint and analysis results obtained from the Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation pursuant to 63.2-1720.1 of the Code of Virginia. Must also be found "No Match" prior to employment by a search of the sex offender registry to determine if a potential employee is registered as a convicted sex offender.

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
