Job Title: Maintenance Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Operations

SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Manager is directly responsible for the management, training, development, performance, retention, and engagement of the maintenance staff. Primary responsibilities are leading groups of team members in the achievement of maintenance objectives pertaining to Safety, Quality, Costs, Revenue and People. Maintenance Managers are expected to allocate their time between hands on duties and administrative responsibilities. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate, engage, lead, and follow up with the team members on execution of key maintenance strategies: Safety, Cost, Quality, Revenue, People.
  • Collaborating with the Plant Manager on maintenance involvement in plant operations, promoting a cohesive team atmosphere, and fostering a healthy, safe work environment.
  • Leading the maintenance operations flow by establishing weekly maintenance schedules, crewing schedules, and ensuring alignment with plant efficiency targets and customer service objectives.
  • Actively develops a training program for new and existing techs to allow development in relation to new technology, equipment specific training, and personal skills to allow advancement and progression within the department.
  • Trains and manages maintenance mechanics in the repair and maintenance activities related to machinery and facilities.
  • Assigns and follows up on the execution of all preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Plans, organizes, and delegates work assignments to accommodate departmental schedules, and to best utilize man-hours and equipment.
  • Prioritizes the reduction of machinery downtime.
  • Leads members of the maintenance team in assuring proper operation, perform preventive / predictive maintenance and emergency repair of all processing equipment and building systems.
  • Analyses and resolution of work problems or assisting workers in solving work problems.
  • Ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures, including all safety programs, requirements, and practices.
  • Ensuring HACCP requirements are met in areas of responsibility while demonstrating a steadfast commitment to food safety.
  • Proactively addressing performance concerns, offering discipline and recognition when appropriate, and leading by example.
  • Actively promoting lean manufacturing and continuous improvements within the operating team.
  • Providing leadership, support, supervision, and training for all employees, with an unwavering commitment to meeting the company's production, financial, and strategic goals, and objectives.
  • Support positive employee relations, recognition, fair treatment, and respect in all aspects of interaction with employees, address employee concerns/requests in a timely and caring manner, follow-up to ensure concerns are addressed as well as insure all employees and ideas are respected and valued and their unique and diverse perspectives are leveraged to improve business results.
  • Review daily department timekeeping records and verify weekly time records for department staff; monitor employee attendance/absenteeism and hold employees accountable as appropriate within established company policies and practices.
  • Lead and manage the capital expenditure process for the facility. Lead the team by entering all CE’s into the system with all required costs, equipment and process flows. Manage the capital budget and 5-year capital plan.
  • Communicate with other departments to ensure important information is shared.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
  • Promote a team atmosphere, healthy and safe work environment for all employees providing consistent and ongoing communication and direction.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in maintenance management
  • Extensive knowledge of ammonia refrigeration equipment and controls
  • Extensive knowledge of use of hand tools, power tools and electrical multi-meter
  • Extensive knowledge of Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Systems
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, drawings and blueprints
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Strong computer skills required.
  • Background with product equipment in the Food Industry (Preferably meat)

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving, mechanical parts, and extreme cold temperature. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
