What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Lineman position at Standard Utility Construction?
Job Description:
- Responsible for completing and directing tasks as required to complete underground or overhead distribution construction, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and emergency restoration.
- Terminating, splicing cables, working on lines and equipment above 600 volts.
- Proficient in troubleshooting overhead and underground lines and equipment.
- Responsible for performance of skilled work in the construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground electrical distribution lines and equipment.
- Duties include, but are not limited to the following: opening and closing overhead and underground line and transformer fuses and switches, working with cutouts, reclosers, switching devices, transformers, switchgears, and capacitors, climbing poles, operating material handling bucket trucks, and digger derricks.
- Proficient in rigging and safely setting/removing poles.
- Coordination, communication and performance of switching orders.
- Working knowledge of safety in switchyards and substations.
- Supervising and training Apprentice Linemen through Class A Linemen.
- Conducting safety briefings and leading job safety analyses.
- May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. Travel may be required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must follow all safe work practices.
- 5 years minimum electric distribution experience.
- OJT Hours as Class A Lineman listed in Training Track.
- Certification required.
- Advanced knowledge in overhead and underground lines and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of distribution system mapping.
- Must be able to direct and supervise work on energized voltages above 600 volts.
- Able to climb wood poles, operate a bucket truck and perform pole top rescues.
- Advanced skills in math.
- Must be able to fluently read, write, speak and comprehend English.
- Must have a high level of attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
- Strong leadership abilities.
- Must be computer literate.
- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Appropriate commercial driver’s license and endorsements.
Preferred Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces. Must be able to move freely, including ability to stoop, crawl, and bend at the knees and waist. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted. Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing. May be required to work long and unpredictable hours. Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
