StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking an entry-level Staff Accountant to join the Fiscal Services Team.
Essential Duties:
- Work involves maintaining, preparing, posting, and balancing accounting and financial statements, records, documents, or reports.
- May specialize in some phase of accounting work such as federal funds accounting, grant accounting, property and equipment control, cost, payroll, or budgeting.
- Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and/or processes general journal entries.
- Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial and accounting documents and records.
- Assists with and research discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances, and reports findings.
- Assists with annual budget preparation.
- May prepare monthly grant reimbursements and monitor spending trends within those grants.
- Prepare any external and internal reporting, analysis, and expenditure approvals for an assigned reporting unit, department and/or division.
- Working closely with other department supervisors regarding cost and budgets of grants.
- Assist in the annual preparation of external audit and ad hoc monitoring of assigned grants.
- Prepare special reports as requested.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Schedule: This is a full-time/exempt position scheduled Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications
Experience, Training & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
- 0-2 years of related accounting experience.
- Experience in accounting and financial operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
- Skill in the use of office equipment, computers, and associated software applications.
- Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory;
- Interpret laws and regulations;
- Work accurately with numerical detail;
- Analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data;
- Communicate effectively.
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must have a Texas driver's license and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
