The Board fulfills its mission through the regulation of the practice of nursing and the approval of nursing education programs. The mission, derived from the Nursing Practice Act, supersedes the interest of any individual, the nursing profession, or any special interest group. LEGAL ASSISTANT II Job Location: 1740 West Adams Street Suite 200 Phoenix, Arizona 85007 Posting Details: Hourly Pay Range: $18.00 - $24.00 Grade: 17 This position will remain open until business needs are met Job Summary: Supporting Board attorneys and staff related to Nursing Board cases for settlements, investigations, and hearings in the administrative courts. Growth opportunity available. Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions: • Interaction with Board staff, Nurses, Applicants, Opposing Counsel and Assistant Attorney Generals: Providing updates on communications, obtaining evidence, updating Board staff, and assisting with inquiries • Investigation & Document/Subpoena Support: Assisting in obtaining information and evidence (including subpoenas); tracking and following up on responses • Administrative: Manage internal calendars, meetings, and agendas; respond to external emails/calls; coordination of third-party vendors/contractors • Filing and Submissions: Preparing and submitting legal documents to the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) or administrative agencies • Case Management: Organizing and managing case files, maintaining documentation, gathering evidence, and preparing correspondence • Document Preparation: Prepare legal documents such as complaints, motions, consent agreements, orders, and correspondence • Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring that the Board of Nursing practices adhere to state and federal laws • Other duties as assigned related to the position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge: • The functions and jurisdictions of local, State, and Federal courts and related agencies, legal termination and procedures • The methods and techniques for writing, reports and other documents in established formats • Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures of Administrative law • The use of statutes, codes, and other legal resources Skills: • Proficiency in legal software, case management systems, Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong research and writing skills • Strong analytical reasoning skills • High level of professionalism • Meticulous attention to detail Ability: • Work as part of a team and be able to proactively and independently carry out own duties in support of the team's mission • Establish and maintain work relationships with representatives federal, state, and local government agencies • Be able to see issues as opportunities for growth in both self, systems, and relationships, and desire such • Be able to maintain attention and actively listen for long periods of time • Be able to manage multiple caess and deadlines simultaneously • Be responsible, sensitive, and ethically observe confidentiality • Write legal documents/reports Education & Experience: Required: • Educational level at a minimum of an Associate degree or minimum of 5 years of legal assistant or legal secretary experience is required Preferred: • An Associate degree in paralegal studies or a Bachelors degree in a major related to law Pre-Employment Requirements: • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
