The Business Planning & Research Unit at the California Lottery is dedicated to maximizing sales and contributions to California public schools through thoughtful evaluations of marketing initiatives and enterprise programs and conducting consumer research and analytics to drive key business and marketing strategy decisions. And we need another creative, analytical thinker to join our team!

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as assigned. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires the employee to reside in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states : "telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

Working Conditions

  • Schedule : The RDA 2 is expected to primarily work between the business hours of 7 : 30a-5 : 30p.
  • Travel : Periodic travel may be required dependent on research needs.

    Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

  • Degree in statistics, economics, data analysis, quantitative research, or psychology.
  • Knowledge and experience conducting quantitative analysis on programs or initiatives.
  • Knowledge and experience with the design and execution of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Knowledge and / or experience conducting data manipulation, aggregations, and analysis of structured and unstructured data using Excel.
  • Experience using SPSS (or other statistical software), Power BI (or other visualization tool), R (or other predictive modelling software), and / or survey data analysis software.
  • Knowledge of utilizing the scientific method for research
  • Knowledge of time management and organizational techniques to provide for efficient prioritization and completion of competing work assignments.
  • Experience writing technical reports and presenting data and statistical analysis to others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to convey and explain complex problems and solutions to a technical and non-technical audience.
