Salary:  $3,900 to $4,933 per month (SR-13, Step C to I).

Perform activities to interpret the natural and cultural resources of State parks for park users and the community. The work involves gathering information in order to present interpretive talks and activities (e.g., storytelling, field trips/tours, craft demonstrations, etc.) about the natural/cultural resources of the park and preparing written material (e.g., activity sheets, informational handouts) and displays to facilitate/enhance interpretive presentations.

The incumbent is also responsible for providing information on park rules, park hazards and safety concerns, recreational opportunities, etc.; monitoring and reporting changes in the condition of park resources; coordinating work with volunteers on park projects and activities; performing general clerical duties such as maintaining records and supplies and distributing brochures and other printed material; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


General Experience: One year of progressively responsible work experience which required the ability to read and comprehend written material; follow oral and written instructions; write clearly and concisely; and exercise a high degree of verbal skill; OR successful completion of high school education or its equivalent.

Information/Education Experience: One year of responsible work experience in a program of information and/or education. The experience must have involved participation in activities that required knowledge of practical information/education methods and techniques, and involved gathering information and preparing written materials to be used for presentations and conducting educational or informational talks or tours.

Resource Management Experience: In addition to the experience described above, either concurrently or separately, applicants must have work experience which provided knowledge of natural/cultural resource management practices and techniques and demonstrated the ability to perform natural/cultural resource management activities such as construction and maintenance of trails or access roads; construction and maintenance of forest facilities, fences, animal pens, etc.; protection of natural resources against animals, disease, fires, etc.; or propagation of and/or caring for native plants and animals.

This experience may have been acquired while serving in a position on a paid or volunteer basis and which may have been either a full-time or part-time job.
