The Child Support Navigator helps parents and custodial caregivers involved in the Michigan Child Support system get the support they need to access child support and child support-impacting resources. Navigators are Title IV-D staff who gather information related to child support barriers, child support system concerns, and basic needs (including, but not limited to, food, transportation, and material goods). Navigators connect parents and custodial caregivers directly to vetted community agencies and resources; may include community-based support and legal resources. Navigators provide support and guidance to help parents and custodial caregivers access MiChildSupport and other child support resources. Navigators are highly trained communicators, skilled in Motivational Interviewing and responsible for ongoing community resource knowledge. Navigators collaborate extensively within the child support system and larger community to overcome logistical barriers and increase program quality, improve system continuity, and reduce system barriers.

Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Departmental Technician 7
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
Departmental Technician 8One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
Departmental Technician E9One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
Experience as a recipient of child support services preferred.
Departmental Technician 7
This position is being filled as a limited term assignment with the potential to become permanent, but it's never guaranteed.
The physical location of this position is Cadillac Place, Detroit, and involves travel. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.
Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview
- A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
- A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
- Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
