Advance Level Secretary/Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Warden at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility, facility housing female prisoners. This employee coordinates office activities and performs all aspects of secretarial support to the Deputy Warden within the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility.  This person will coordinate office activities (scheduling of activities, meeting room reservations, schedule interviews, etc.), schedule meetings, prepare and maintain office records, reports and correspondence on behalf of the Deputy Warden.  This will include, but is not limited to, performing tasks for Programs and Custody, Housing as they relate to the Housing area.  S/he receives, evaluates and prioritizes incoming verbal communication and written documentation.  S/he handles confidential information regarding prisoners.  This individual will be in a position to interpret policies and procedures, their supervisor’s point of view, and serving as a liaison to staff and management.  This employee may be required to conduct research and prepare materials for managerial decisions and participate in management assistant activities.  This individual also completes special projects and other duties as assigned.  This position may also provide back-up coverage for the Warden’s Secretary, when needed. This position functions within the security perimeter of a Correctional Facility and is test designated. 

Position DescriptionEducation
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including one year equivalent to advanced 8-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8.

OR

Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including two years equivalent to experienced E7-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary 7, or Legal Secretary 7.

 

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.  All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
