This position will be located in the Geological Survey Program, Oil and Gas Unit, 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla MO 65401.

  • Schedule and conduct field inspections and investigations of Missouri oil and gas operations, which involves data collection and analysis, as well as technical/scientific writing to support oil and gas permitting and exploration operations.
  • Working on a new grant opportunity to plug abandoned oil and gas wells and reclaim associated sites through the Revive Economic Growth and Reclaim Orphaned Wells Act (REGROW) of 2021.
  • Witness mechanical integrity testing of oil and gas wells.
  • Prepare timely and accurate inspection and investigation reports and conduct follow-up activities as needed.
  • Provide compliance and technical assistance to the regulated community.
  • Ensure consistent application of Missouri’s Oil and Gas Production law and implementing regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners including state and federal agencies, oil and gas industry members, contractors and landowners to improve Missouri’s groundwater and air quality.
  • Conduct data entry and manage multiple databases and online applications.
  • Respond timely to general inquiries and concerns from the public.
  • Perform other work as assigned.

  • Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, conservation enforcement, ecology, wildlife conservation, fisheries, geology, soils, chemistry, petroleum engineering, geotechnical science or other science related field and 0-4 years of experience with compliance, enforcement, oil and gas well drilling and production technologies.
  • (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education and experience.)
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access, and ArcGIS Pro
  • Be able to interpret and implement Missouri’s rules and policies.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Valid driver’s license.
