What you'll do:
- Prepares or assists in preparing a major meal in a large institutional kitchen.
- Requisition basic food and supply items.
- Maintain point of service counts.
- Develops menus when assigned which comply with the rules of nutrition in preparing a well-balanced meal.
- Prepares required reports.
- Participate and assists in supervising the cleaning of the kitchen and food serving areas.
- Must have the ability to work with and supervise youth and / or other helpers in the preparation of food, safety and sanitation.
- Be familiar with the terminology, weight, measures and proper use of equipment used in an institutional kitchen.
- Have the ability to take direction from supervisor, communicate effectively and physically able to stand long hours and perform required lifting as needed to stock supplies and perform cooking and cleaning duties.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of standard kitchen procedures and sanitation guidelines. Ability to prepare more complex menu items.
Qualifications:
One or more years of experience as a Food Service Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
Two or more years of commercial, industrial, or institutional cooking experience.
OR
1-2 years of work experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which included 15 earned credit hours in food preparation, Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
