Hiring Agency: Banking and Finance - Agency 19 Location: Lincoln, NE Hiring Rate: $17.561 Job Posting: JR2024-00008883 Accountant I (Open) Applications No Longer Accepted On (If no date is displayed, job is posted as open until closed): Job Description: The Accountant I position will conduct a variety of duties including; accounting, pre-audit of accounts payables, deposit and exam billing processing, fixed assets inventory, purchasing, oversee record retention, and assist the Business Manager. Job duties This position will conduct a variety of duties, including accounting, fixed assets, inventory, purchasing, and coordinating long-term storage (retention of documents) for an agency of 71 FTE. Pre-audit all accounts payable and general ledger documents. Functional coordinator of accounts receivable for the Department to include monthly and annual billings, follow up and collection of past due accounts, review and verify Department receipt documents, and complete daily deposits. Interpret State and Department accounting policies and procedures to assist staff and vendors with questions. Compile the transfer of all Department documents to the Records Management Division for long-term storage. Responsible for tagging equipment, maintaining and updating Excel spreadsheets of all inventory/Fixed Assets, and conducting the annual physical inventory with the agency Business Manager. Research and order office equipment, furniture, supplies, copy and printing jobs. Enter purchase orders and requisitions in the State's accounting system (Payroll and Financial Center/EnterpriseOne). Prepare spreadsheets, correspondence, and reports, and research as needed. Assist Business Manager in collecting and compiling data for biennial budget preparation. Back up Business Manager during absences. Organize and file accounting documents. Other duties as assigned. Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field or vocational school, OR experience performing accounting functions, including interpreting and analyzing financial data. Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years' experience in accounting practices. One or more years' experience with the State of Nebraska Payroll and Financial Center including A/P, A/R, purchasing, and pre-auditing of A/P. One or more years' experience with records retention and inventory. Strong working knowledge of Excel. Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting concepts and procedures; research practices and techniques; long and short-term record keeping methods; and computerized accounting software. Practical understanding and skills in Microsoft Excel, including creating and formatting spreadsheets; and extracting and compiling financial data from multiple sources into reports. Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply the appropriate State and Department rules, regulations, and standards as they pertain to accounting/finance operations. Skilled in multi-tasking, attention to detail, and proofreading to assure completeness and accuracy of documents. Good communication skills to effectively exchange information and employ professionalism, and good judgment when dealing with staff and the public. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, be punctual and dependable.
