Job Description:
The Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems (NPERS) administers several statewide retirement systems and one deferred compensation plan for the State of Nebraska. As Director, you will report to a ten-member board and be responsible for overall planning, organization, development, supervision, direction and coordination of the on-going operations of the Systems.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
The Director administers seven separate employee retirement plans with a total membership of approximately 155,718 active, inactive, and retired employees. They have strategic oversight of agency functions and serve as a liaison with the Governor, State agencies, the Legislature, member groups, agency attorney, internal auditor, and the consulting actuary. They are responsible to design, develop and implement sound fiscal and accounting procedures, records, and practices and be familiar with the general financial and management characteristics of financial institutions. They are responsible for establishing both short and long-term goals for the agency and the various pensions systems. Finally, the Director services as an ex-officio member of the Nebraska Investment Council. The Nebraska Investment Council is responsible for investing the retirement assets.
Requirements / Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have an advanced degree, preferably in business administration, public administration, finance/accounting or related field, and relevant training in, experience with, or demonstrated knowledge of qualified public employee retirement plan administration as well as supervisory or management experience. The Director shall not be a member of the board.
