Hiring Agency: Veterans Affairs - Agency 28 Location: Lincoln Job Posting Hiring Rate: $16.51 Classification Salary Range: $16.51 - $25.86 Job Posting: JR2023-00000237 Payroll Specialist (Evergreen) (Open) Posting Closes: Job Description: Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs (NDVA) has an exciting new opportunity and is seeking HR Specialist/Generalist Assistants to join the NDVA HR Department. This position will operate as a Payroll Specialist with the main duty of processing payroll and managing payroll and payroll-related activities, such as benefit and onboarding events in Workday, as well as providing training for timekeepers and supervisors on best practices for timecards to ensure accuracy of payroll. The position will process payrolls for NDVA and its 24-7 facilities every two weeks, during payroll processing weeks. When not processing payroll, the position will provide payroll related support to its assigned agency managers, supervisors, and teammates including submitting personnel changes, salary changes, classification changes, and other duties as assigned. Job duties include, but not limited to, processing payroll for all of NDVA and its various offices/facilities on a bi-weekly basis; responding to customer questions/concerns related to payroll; receiving and executing payroll related requests including reclassifications, pay adjustments, new hires, transfers, W4 changes, deferred compensation requests, benefit change events, offboarding notifications, terminations, NPERS forms, and other related tasks; storing payroll related documents in payroll files, and other tasks as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: One year of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or two years of related experience. PREFERRED: Experience in payroll operations for 24-7 facilities. Knowledge of personnel practices, procedures, and terminology; the goals and requirements of record maintenance and confidentiality; federal personnel/employment laws; standard personnel, payroll, benefits, and related budgeting practices, forms, and requirements; standard teammate/job safety and health practices; general labor/teammate management relations requirements and practices. Ability to communicate in person, and by telephone, computer, email, and correspondence, with the supervisor and other agency teammates to exchange factual information and explain processes and guidelines; understand and apply instructions; evaluate similarities and differences between two sets of information; operate office equipment; set up and maintain record keeping systems and databases; understand, explain, and apply agency and state rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines; recommend changes to procedures; compile data and prepare summaries of personnel transactions and activities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build and maintain positive professional relationships including providing constructive feedback to supervisors, timekeepers, and employees. Demonstrated ability to organize information and strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in compliance with FLSA, wage laws and other polices to ensure that pay is accurate was well as the ability to find and correct errors in an expedient manner. Flexibility to assist with payroll matters as determined by the NDVA HR team.
