This posting represents seven (7) Transportation Worker II vacant positions located in Wilkes County Maintenance Unit Division 11. Positions 60022035, 60022049, 60022075 60022080, 60022085, 60022100 and 60022145 will be filled from the same pool of applicants. All applicants will be considered for all seven (7) positions.
These positions are located at the Wilkes County Maintenance Unit in Division 11. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair and construction of State maintained roads. Work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices, operating a variety of hand and power tools, clearing right of way, performing preventive maintenance and repairs to pavements, shoulder maintenance, pipe installation or other drainage tasks, ditching and shrubbing, and flagging traffic. Additional duties include inventorying and tracking quantities used of materials, performing manual labor tasks, and the operation of assigned heavy equipment. Applicants must have the ability to operate a small tandem dump truck. Work involves shoveling, raking, sweeping, walking and standing for long periods of time; and be subjected to all types of uneven terrain. Workers will be exposed to all types of weather and extreme temperature conditions. Employees must have the ability to lift and carry up to 80lbs repeatedly. Position also requires visual acuity. This position is subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, and out of town travel during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
