What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Specialist II position at State of South Carolina?
Provides supervision of the food service department, to include tray assembly, and dish washing operation. Responsible for ensuring correct meal and food items are on trays to ensure the correct diets for consumers. Responsible for the general sanitation of the Food Service Dept.
- Responsible for the supervision of tray assembly and dish-room operations, when needed. Ensure work stations are covered for meals. Monitors temperatures, and appearance of food. Ensures that production and temperature logs are completed.
- Responsible for training of staff in all areas of dish room and tray line. Makes station, and cleaning assignments.
- Checks labels of food items. Monitors for out of date items. Rotates stock.
- Cleaning and sanitizing of tray line, dish room and prep areas.
- Ensures that employee time sheets are completed. Maintain break times, in accordance with departmental rules.
- Completes required documentation, and attends meetings. Completes and issues disciplinary action forms for warnings and counsels after review and consult with Food Service Specialist III, in a timely manner. Counsels employees keeping abreast of their needs, goals, and expectations. Provides constructive and insightful feedback to improve performance, and service. Completes performance reviews in a timely manner. Approves or rejects leave requests as needed to ensure adequate coverage. Maintains departmental schedules.
- Ensures coolers and storage areas are secured when unobserved or are not in use. Assures that all entrances to the building are kept secured. Answers phones and checks fax machines. Makes changes and assists with diet cards as needed. Makes substitution of food items, as necessary. Work in all areas of food service as necessary.
- Hygiene and sanitation according to DHEC and Food Service Department Policies.
A high school diploma and experience in quantity and quality cooking or in a bakery. Have working knowledge of diets, dish-washing operation, sanitation standards, DHEC regulations and Whitten Center guidelines. Obtains & maintains Serv-Safe manager certification, defensive driving and CPR certifications.
