The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an entry-level Attorney to perform a wide variety of legal services, with a focus on civil litigation.
Job Summary
Duties include researching and interpreting relevant laws and providing legal advice; representing the department in civil matters in state court and small claims court; representing the Board of Pardons and Parole on administrative appeals; dissemination of information pursuant to subpoenas.
Licenses And Certifications
The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited law school; be a member of the South Dakota State Bar or willing and qualified to become a member of the South Dakota State Bar, and qualify for appointment as a Special Assistant Attorney General.

- SD State government operations; and administrative law.
- communicate clearly in both oral and written communications;
- solve problems and articulate issues for a wide variety of audiences;
- generate required documents independent of a legal secretary or paralegal assistant.
