The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our Eligibility Services Division as a Collections Overpayment Legal Secretary.

In this role, the Legal Secretary will be responsible for preparing and processing documents for appeal requests, ensuring their accuracy and completeness. Additional duties include:
  • Collaborating closely with the DWS Legal Counsel and collectors to resolve legal issues by maintaining legal queues and logs.
  • Processing new legal assignments and promptly following up on legal actions.

  • Preparing and filing legal documents with courts, constables, and/or sheriffs.
  •  Answering the unit phone.
  • Obtaining and maintaining a Notary Public Certification.
Minimum Qualification
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following minimum qualifications:
  • Experience working as a Legal Secretary.
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google platform applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both in person and through phone or written communication.
  • A team-oriented mindset with a demonstrated history of reliability and dependability.
  •  Flexibility and willingness to learn new programs/processes as needed to manage workload and assist coworkers.
  • Capability of handling highly confidential information.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
This position may be filled as a career mobility if an internal DWS employee is selected.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • DHRM rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state of Utah employees.
