Job Description:
The Lone Peak Conservation Center is seeking highly skilled and motivated applicants for a full-time career position as the Twin Peaks Type 2 Initial Attack Fire Crew Supervisor. The Fire Crew Supervisor will manage all aspects of a complex fire resource program by developing and integrating numerous employees to form a group or groups of independent
resources; while ensuring proper delivery of all assigned resource(s) services through oversight, guidance, and fiscal accountability; will fulfill agency and inter-agency requirements for the establishment and delivery of wildland firefighting resource services; serves in a key fire management position that requires extensive experience in wildland fire suppression and personnel management; serves as an agency representative to interface with local, regional, and national dispatch centers, agency and inter-agency partners, and the public; directly impacts the annual delivery of products and services derived from agency strategic planning, in addition, will develop, oversee and manage all aspects of the Twin Peaks Type 2 Initial Attack Fire Crew.
Principal Duties:
- Supervise subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions. Mentor, motivate, and provide direction for subordinates, develop and deliver curriculum for training.
- Develop strategy and plans, organize workplace functions; coordinate times, vacation schedules, and other staffing coverage; establish workplace procedures; authorize and audit unit billing/ expenditures; maintain records; arrange for equipment maintenance and be responsible for its upkeep and accountability.
- Resolves potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, adjoining resources, and/ or the public.
- Provide leader's intent and direction for all wildland firefighting and project applications. Ensure all operations meet agency guidelines for safe operations.
- Complete annual core training and certification requirements for qualifications, competency, and physical fitness per the standards of the state of Utah, and Lone Peak Conservation Center.
- Extensive experience as a firefighter and leader in wildland firefighting, with an emphasis on Initial Attack operations.
- Advanced knowledge of fire suppression strategies and tactics, fireline leadership, and organizational program management.
- Crew Boss Qualification (CRWB).
- Incident Commander Type 4 Qualification (ICT4).
- Faller 2 Certification (FAL2).

- Crew Boss Qualification (CRWB)

- Current or lapsed Faller 3 Certification (FAL3)
- College level degree in Emergency Services, Forestry, or Wildfire Management.

Duties include demands for strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions, over extended periods of time. Candidates must be able to adjust and cope with exposure to weather elements, dust and smoke, poor bivouac and eating situations under unpredictable circumstances. Fire and land management projects may require camping out and preparing own food. Must be available to be on call, travel extensively and endure primitive camping conditions. Requires field work in inclement weather and rough terrain; work requires physical exertion with the ability to stand for long periods of time, walk over rough surfaces, bend, lift heavy items (up to and over 50 lbs); vehicle operation in rough terrain; work around heavy equipment operations and chainsaw use.
Certifications/Licenses required at the time of hire or must obtain during probationary period or designated timeframe:
- Must be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- First Aid/CPR
- Must be able to pass the arduous work capacity test.
- Valid/Current driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation and/or drug screening prior to the start of employment.
- Must adhere to agency On Call policies and standards.
- Must travel/participate with crew on all assignments (project, fire, all hazard) unless previously discussed and approved.
- Must meet LPCC response time standards for mobilization.
